Matteo Sánchez (born December 19, 2007) is a Canadian filmmaker, writer, and director known for his emotionally raw, character-driven storytelling. Currently studying Film Production at York University, Sánchez has begun carving out a distinct voice through his short films such as Green Grass, Yellow Sun (2025) and Míguel (2025). Green Grass, Yellow Sun was a breakout hit in the Toronto indie scene, earning praise for its lyrical tone and emotional depth. Míguel has been selected by several film festivals and is slated for release later this year.
Sánchez draws primary inspiration from filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson, Edward Yang, Terrence Malick, and David Lynch, exploring similar themes of grief, connection, alienation, and the mysteries of everyday life. His work blends poetic realism with grounded, deeply human narratives, often marked by a balance of naturalistic performances and a strong visual atmosphere.
